LEADER RESOURCES

Hunting around for resources can be a challenge, and for those Leaders, Parents and Volunteers we want that to be an easy process.  This page has been designed just for that purpose!

Basic Training

The "Basic Courses" for our new, and continuing leaders may be found online at https://scoutnet.scouting.org/elearning/ You'll have to create a unique user name and password before you can get started.

The two central trainings are for new leaders and the level of Scout they will be working with such as Fast Start Tiger, Wolf, etc. on the Cub Scout Menu and also the Youth Protection Training may be accessed here on the General Menu.  This is a mandatory training for all new leaders, and youth volunteers.

If you are a Walk-Around Leader, and missed indoor training or lost your handout.  A handout was prepared to go over basic issues as a Walk-Around Leader, and by hitting the following highlighted link you can download or review this word document - WALK AROUND LEADER BASICS.

Other Things to Consider

Since we provide good council to our Scouts, the same applies to our Leaders and Volunteers; as most of the same rules of what to bring and not to bring to camp apply.  What you'll really need, and this is a short list, are:

  • Good tennis shoes or hiking boots,
  • Comfortable and appropriate clothes,
  • Long pants,
  • A good hat that shades you from the sun,
  • Sunglasses,
  • A good solid water bottle that can hold about a quart,
  • Wear sunscreen and bug repellant (put it on before entering camp),
  • Fanny packs or day packs are usually helpful for manuals, and other stuff you'll bring with you,
  • Although "It never rains at Day Camp" bring raingear anyhow,
  • And, other stuff like that...

Also, since you will be walking around most of the day, and nowadays most of us sit at a desk; go on some long walks or workout for the week or two preceding camp and build up your endurance so that camp life is not such a challenge - remember, you'll be addressing your needs and the needs of a number of Scouts who may be in a new experience.  Also, come equipped with some activities, etc. during down times or to change things up a bit; a bag of about half a dozen small activities can be useful.
